TEACHING

TECHNIQUE CLASSES

I enjoy teaching technique classes based in Cunningham Technique, a form of modern dance that I trained in for many years as part of the Professional Training Program at the Cunningham Studio in NYC. This technique was a pathway for me as a freelance dancer to develop greater articulation and build my overall strength so I could remain injury free. I have over 20 years of experience adapting my teaching to create a rigorous and engaging experience for professional dancers, university students, adult beginners, teens, children, and dancers of all abilities. I hope to grow each dancer’s technical skills, help them find ease and alignment while presenting them with unfamiliar pathways of movement to challenge the body and mind.

MASTERCLASSES & WORKSHOPS

In masterclasses and workshops, I guide dancers in exploring ideas and movement from my own choreography or I can share excerpts of work from renowned choreographers that I have worked with with over the years including Molissa Fenley and Christopher Williams. Questions that guide our exploration include: How does a performer bring a work to life to meet the intention of the choreographer while maintaining their own artistic voice? What is the process of translation of movement from one body to the next? What is it to mimic versus embody? How do you let yourself be transformed by the experience of being inside a new movement language? I intend for classes and workshops to provide specific and useful tools for performers and choreographers to grow as artists.
